CJWDT: Vietnam


So... CJWDT'11 mini Asian tour continues. Today is my last day in Kuala Lumpur. It was fun, but unfortunately things didn't go as I planned. Because of Ramadan month, many restaurants are closed and I couldn't eat the restaurants I wanted to try. But show must go on, tomorrow I'll fly to Ho Chi Minh cIty, Vietnam first time.

I was originally planning to go to Bangkok then Hong Kong, but I decided to go to Ho Chi Minh instead with two reasons. One is to visit my co-worker from L2o, chef Gabe Boyer, the other is simply I'm more interested in Vietnamese cuisine than Thai cuisine.

I think Vietnamese cuisine stand very unique aside other Asian cuisines. Just same as other Asian cuisines, their roots must be adapted by Grandmother of Asian cuisine, Chinese cuisine. And as other Asian cuisine, I assumed Vietnamese cuisine must be developed influenced each other by surround countries such as Thailand & Cambodia. As it is known, Vietnam cuisine have strong influence from French cuisine by historical background. For me, Vietnamese cuisine is one of the most interesting cuisines in the world.

So... anyway unfortunately I have only 5 full days in Ho Chi Minh city. I wish I could stay longer, but I'm in search of my job, so I must move on. The following is the some of local dishes I want to try, then the list of the restaurants I want to try. These restaurants are I pick through by multiple web research. I certainly have no time to go all of them, but once I get local map, I'll map it up and build my battle plan. Seek and destroy!
