CJWDT: Peru

Urrrgh, it feels like over one month since last post....  Now I'm actually passing Peru, Chile, Argentina and going down to Montevideo, Uruguay tonight!  I actually made this post once more than one week ago, but it also deleted by accident.  Oh, wow...  it's time to digging into Lima, Peru.

Through my multiple web search, I realized big culinary stream is happening in Peru, especially Lima.  Talking about cuisine itself, it seems more diverse than any other South American cuisines.  I would say Peruvian cuisine deserves to be counted as one of 3 grand cuisines instead of Turkish....  I was in Lima for 10 days and didn't feel I had enough time to eat up all variety of Peruvian cuisines.   The picture above is some munch pics from my time in Lima.  From top to down:  Cuy Peking style with purple corn crepe@Astrid & gaston, ceviche tasting@La mer and.....  as you see...  Larva which I tried first time @Amaz.  I ate it after grilled on griddle although I heard people eat it 'odori'(alive, mvoing and raw) in Amazon.....  Taste?  Nnnn... kinda like chicken skin, good 'charred' flavor, but not crispy.  ....  yeah, it's not like tasty treat... least for me!!

During my staying in Lima, I was fortuned to stage 3 restaurants in 3 days.  Central, Malabar and Amaz restaurants.  During my stage & market visiting I have learned many Peruvian ingredients I never knew, name some cushuro o mamunta, caiguras, lacuma, chirimoya, camu camu, cocona....  and also have chance to taste leche de tigre at all 3 different restaurants!   Wish I could spend few days each restaurants, but it was great experience.  Here I'd love to say big gracious to all the chefs and team at Central, Malabar and Amaz restaurants!!

Besides lacking time to eat variety of local eats in Lima, I wish I visit another regions of Peru like Arequipa, Cuzco, Trujillo, Nazca and Machu Picchu!!!  It's big shame I didn't go those places, but...  this is majorly focusing on foods & job-hunting, so.....    Well, positive side, I left the reason to come back to Peru in the future.  I'll come back Peru one day!  CJWDT South American tour continues...  Chile NEXT!!
